As the rainy season sets in across Lwengo District, farmers are facing serious challenges due to the lack of agricultural extension workers. Without proper guidance on best farming practices, many risk poor harvests, which could lead to food shortages in the coming months.
At the recent TOPOWA Forum Discussion held by the Kisekka Development Association in Lwaggulwe village, community members voiced their concerns:
✅ There are no agricultural extension workers to provide expert farming advice.
✅ Those available lack transport and fuel to reach remote villages.
✅ Government follow-ups on farming support are slow and ineffective.
✅ Civil society organizations (CSOs) need more funding to step in and assist farmers.
The absence of extension workers means many farmers are using outdated or ineffective farming methods, threatening food security in the region. If urgent action is not taken, families may struggle to access enough food, and the local economy could suffer.
Farmers are calling on the government, local leaders, and development partners to step in with solutions such as:
🔹 Deploying more agricultural officers to rural areas.
🔹 Providing extension workers with transport and fuel.
🔹 Strengthening CSOs to support farming communities.
With the right support, farmers can boost their yields and secure food for their families and the wider community. Now is the time to act!
